Eligibility

Johnathan T. Leonard Memorial Scholarships & Grants focuses its grantmaking on domestic, public or private, nonprofit or not-for-profit organizations. Before the organization would be able to consider a grant to a non-domestic entity prior approval by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) would be mandatory.

The primary areas of condition or disease for which the organization provides research grants are:

Traumatic Brain Injury
Minimally Conscious State
Coma
Vegetative State

The primary goal of Johnathan T. Leonard Memorial Scholarships & Grants in providing research grants is to advance and improve the outcomes for persons who are unconscious after severe traumatic brain injuries (TBI). This includes optimal recovery and rehabilitation through organized auditory stimulation (OAS) while in trauma or critical care hospital environments.

The Johnathan T. Leonard Memorial Scholarships & Grants screening committee considers the following criteria when reviewing grant application:

1) Completeness of application
2) Capability and availability of project leader
3) Capability and availability of research team
4) Scientific merit of research objectives
5) Research plan practicality
6) Fairness of cost estimates
7) Utilization of existing resources
8) Fit with Johnathan T. Leonard Memorial Scholarships & Grants focus area
